How do you get a Tidy House in 30 Minutes? Family Chore Time.
WHAT IS FAMILY CHORE TIME:
Whether you have a large or small family you need a 30 minute family chore time. If the family makes the mess they should all help mom in cleaning it up. This teaches kids responsibility. It helps adults focus on the house for just 30 minutes a day. It helps you to focus on what needs to be done in the house to make it look tidy and achieve that look in only 30 minutes. You can rest easy the entire day because the house looks good.
HUSBANDS AND CHORE TIME:
If you think you can not get your husband on board you would be surprised. My husband loves and encourages our 30 minute chore time. He sees how nice the house looks after. He even contributes by doing some small projects or straightening up.
WHEN TO DO YOUR 30 MINUTE CHORE TIME:
The earliest possible time of the day is the best time to do your 30 minute chores. If you put it off it might not happen. Every week day we wake up and have a family meeting. Our family meetings are at 8:15. In our family meetings we discuss what we will be doing during the week. We have a family devotion. Then we designate chores to all the kids.
Every kid has a chore to work on during the 30 minutes. Nobody is allowed to sit around they must be doing something. If a kid completes said chore then we give them another one or have them clean their room.
I love our 30 minute chore time in the morning. I realize that this is probably not a perfect system for everyone. In fact if your kids go to school this might be difficult. I would recommend doing it right when they get home from school. In the past my kids went to school and we were able to successfully have it right after school. When they got of the bus at different times it became more difficult and did not get done.
IF YOU DON’T HAVE KIDS:
Maybe you do not have kids and want to keep your house organized and clean. You can still use the 30 minute chore time. It’s only 30 minutes out of your day. You would be surprised how much you can do in your house in just 30 minutes.
WHAT CHORES TO DO DURING YOUR 30 MINUTES:
You can make a list of chores to complete every day. You can even make a weekly list if that is easier. I just look around and see the needs in the house before we assign chores.
Some examples of chores that get completed in our morning 30 minute session are:
-clean dining room table
-clean around trash cans
-vacuum by baseboards
-wipe down doorways
-pick up yard debris
-straighten up office
-pick up living room
-small projects (replacing air filters, organizing tools, hanging a picture, etc)
-pick up toys
As you can see there are plenty of chores and I could name even more. There is something for every age. Even my littlest one can make his bed and pick up toys.
If you do not already have a family chore time in place I highly recommend trying this. I am so pleased with the way my house looks when we wake up and do our chores.
